Our process

Q. What is the standard recruitment process?

A. The recruitment process will vary for each role. Our recruitment team will typically review your CV against the criteria for the role. If you meet these criteria you’ll be asked to complete a phone interview and/or an online assessment. From there, you will either attend a series of interviews to assess your knowledge and cultural fit. If you’re successful, you’ll need to complete background checks before receiving an offer.
Timeframes and feedback

Q. How long will the recruitment process take?

A. The recruitment process can vary, however we’ll try to keep you informed about your progress as much as possible.

Q. How long after submitting my CV will I hear from Coal Services?

A. We aim to respond to all applicants as quickly as possible. Once you’ve applied for a role you should receive an automated response confirming that we have received your application.

Q. Will I be compensated for travelling expenses to attend an interview?

A. It depends on where you are being interviewed. Please contact the Recruitment team for details.

Q. Is there parking available when I come for interview?

A. It depends on where you are being interviewed. Please contact the Recruitment team for details.

Q. I am coming in to meet a manager for an interview. What should I wear?

A. It is recommended that you wear business attire for any interviews that you attend. If there is a different dress code, our Recruitment team will make you aware of this.

Q. How many interviews can I expect?

A. The number of interviews that you are invited to will depend on the role you are applying for. Our Recruitment team will notify you of the process during the interview stage.

Q. I was unsuccessful at interview stage. How long until I can re-apply for another role?

A. You can apply immediately. Generally we recommend that you consider the feedback you received before you re-apply.
Online testing

Q. How do I know if I need to complete an online assessment?

A. The Recruitment team will contact you to arrange this and will send you the necessary information by email.
Background checks

Q. What kind of background checks will I be required to complete?

A. With all roles at Coal Services we will conduct police checks and reference checks. In some cases we will also conduct a visa verification check and a medical. Our recruitment team will discuss requirements with you during the recruitment process.

Q. Who are the ideal referees I should provide?

A. Our Recruitment team require at least 2 professional references from your previous/current manager/supervisor. Referees will only be contacted once we have obtained your consent. If we require additional background checks, we will be in contact to obtain your consent and advise you of details.

Q. I don’t want my current manager to know I am looking for a job. Can I ask someone else to be a referee?

A. It is preferable that the referee details supplied are at manager/supervisor level. A previous manager should suffice, however if you are still unsure please discuss this with our Recruitment team.
Offer stage

Q. At what stage would I expect to receive an offer?

A. If you are successful and all your pre-employment checks are complete we will move to verbal offer and then a written offer.
