CS Health

CS Health will continue to review the Government and NSW Health recommendations regarding COVID-19 and will adapt our clinical service provision based on any new developments. Please note the following update:

Service Provision Update


Services from our Singleton office

Over the last few months we have met regularly with the NSW Minerals Council regarding our service provision and the interruptions caused by COVID-19. Compliance with Order 43 remains industry’s main priority and we have continued to provide updates to the NSW Resources Regulator in relation to this matter.

In consultation with the NSW Minerals Council, we have made the decision to limit our services from our Singleton offices as there are a large number of Order 43 periodic medical assessments due in the Northern region.

Therefore, the CS Health office in Singleton will only offer the following services:

  • Order 43 periodic medical assessments
  • Site access periodic medical assessments
  • Mines Rescue medical assessments
  • Single services (drug and alcohol, chest x-rays)

This temporary measure will remain in place for the remainder of the year to focus on periodic medical assessment appointments.

All pre-placement medical assessments and site access only assessments will continue to be conducted at our offices in Speers Point, Lithgow, Woonona and Mudgee.

Chest X-Rays

Chest x-ray services have resumed at our Singleton office, including drop in and standalone appointments. Our external chest x-ray providers have also confirmed they are now operating as normal.

CS Health Gymnasiums

Our gymnasiums are now open to our treatment and rehabilitation clients; however, they remain closed to retired mine workers and the general public. We will review this further once physical distancing and other restrictions are eased.

Order 43 External Doctor Network

A new online portal for the Order 43 External Doctor Network will be available from Monday, 29 June 2020. It includes new functionality that will automatically generate and send you notifications from CS Health regarding the status of medicals and compliance with Order 43.

Coal Services telephone system upgrade

We are currently experiencing some issues with our telephone system; specifically, the voicemail and call back log functions. We are in the process of transitioning to a new telephone system that is expected to resolve this problem.

In addition to the new telephone system we will also launch a centralised phone number: 1800 CSH MED (1800 274 633). This number will be live from Monday, 13 July 2020.

In the meantime, please continue to call as per normal business practice. If the call goes unanswered or drops out, either try again later or email us and one of our team will call you. I appreciate this is not an ideal situation, but your patience is appreciated. We will notify you as soon as the issues have been rectified.

Order 43 medical compliance

COVID-19 has presented our industry with many challenges regarding compliance with NSW Coal Order 43. It has been encouraging to see the willingness on the part of employers and employees to work constructively with us to ensure that we can continue to deliver medical services in a way that protects the health of all involved and meet best practice standards as stipulated by NSW Health and The Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand.

It seems likely that at the end of 2020 not all employees due for an Order 43 periodic medical assessment will have undertaken their medical during the year. The enforced COVID-19 shutdown period and the subsequent ongoing changes needing to be implemented to protect those involved have impacted on the ability of service providers such as CS Health to operate at full capacity.

In March we advised employers that following discussions with the NSW Resources Regulator, Coal Services would not make any recommendation to the Regulator regarding an employer’s non-compliance with Order 43 medical assessments due in 2020. Following further discussions with the Regulator we are writing now to advise that this arrangement will continue for Order 43 periodic medical assessments that were due in 2020 on into 2021.

We expect that a small percentage out of the 11,741 workers due for a periodic medical in 2020 will not complete this assessment. The CS Health Partnership Team headed by Monique Roberts will work with those employers affected by this to ensure that these workers are booked for an assessment at a mutually agreeable time in early 2021. As Order 43 is written, these workers will in effect have until December 31, 2021 to complete their assessment, but
ideally, we will work with employers to complete these medicals as soon as possible.

During this time Coal Services will not make any recommendation to the Regulator regarding an employer’s non-compliance with Order 43 medical assessments for workers unable to complete their periodic medical assessment in 2020.

CS Health will soon commence contacting employers to discuss their Order 43 medical needs for 2021, and we wish to remind employers with workers due for a medical assessment in 2021 of the need to comply with Order 43.
