HSR training courses can also be accessed by other members of organisations such as health and safety committee members, managers and supervisors to assist them in understanding the legislation relating to consultation and the important role of HSRs in the workplace.

Once a HSR has completed approved training, they can exercise additional powers to:

  • direct unsafe work to stop when they have a reasonable concern that carrying out the work would expose a worker of their work group to a serious risk
  • issue a ‘Provisional Improvement Notice’ (PIN) when they reasonably believe there is a contravention of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (WHS Act).
  • This course has been developed by SafeWork NSW and meets the requirements of the Work Health and Safety (WHS) Act 2011. SafeWork NSW approval number: RTO 800 318
