Course overview

Our Control Room Operator course provides you with the technical skills and knowledge required to monitor, control, and report on mining operational processes within the coal industry.

You will gain skills and knowledge in:

  • communicating information
  • monitoring operations
  • monitoring mine processes to identify equipment and service availability, and continuity of production
  • reporting faults within processes
  • recording and reporting status reports and operational information
  • emergency response
  • monitoring and reporting on coal mine gases.

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be awarded a Statement of Attainment for the following units:

  • RIIMCU311D Monitor control processes
  • RIICOM301D Communicate information

These units contribute to the completion of the Certificate III in Underground Coal Operations (RII30215).


Three days

Entry requirements

No formal previous learning is required. Although not essential, it is beneficial that participants have experience working in a coal mine environment.

If you believe you already hold some or all of the skills, knowledge and/or experience for this course, you may be eligible to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
