Course overview

The Control Room Operator course offered by Mines Rescue prepares participants with the technical skills and knowledge required to monitor, control, and report on mining operational processes within the coal industry. The course also provides participants with the training to assist with emergency response communications and compliance.

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will gain skills and knowledge in:

  • communicating information
  • monitoring operations
  • monitoring mine processes to identify equipment and service availability, and continuity of production
  • reporting faults within processes
  • recording and reporting status reports and operational information
  • emergency response
  • monitoring and reporting on coal mine gases.

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be awarded a Statement of Attainment for the following units:

  • RIIMCU311D Monitor control processes
  • RIICOM301D Communicate information

These units contribute to the completion of the Certificate III in Underground Coal Operations (RII30218).

Entry requirements

No formal previous learning is required. Although not essential, it is beneficial that participants have experience working in a coal mine environment.
