May 2018 – Are you ready for flu season?

While our friends in North America bemoan the delay of their spring season, here in NSW we are enjoying the onset of cooler weather! This means the flu season will soon be upon us. Are you ready?

According to NSW Health statistics, approximately 20 per cent of the population will be affected by influenza this year. It is easy to protect yourself (and others) from becoming infected with the flu virus and also prevent the spread of coughs and colds through simple actions such as:

  • Cover your face when you cough or sneeze and throw used tissues in a rubbish bin.
  • Wash your hands thoroughly and often.
  • Stay at home until you’re well. Wait at least 24 hours after your fever resolves so you that you are unlikely to infect other people.

But your best protection against the flu is to get an annual flu shot.

Flu vaccination clinics make good business sense. Protecting your workplace against the flu can help to:

  • Reduce sick leave
  • Improve productivity
  • Improve workplace safety
  • Reduce the spread of flu at work, home and in the community
  • Demonstrate your commitment and dedication to workplace health and safety.
