Self-Escape Induction (including OSCSR)

This course provides you with the skills and knowledge to assess, withdraw and escape from an underground mine during a hazardous situation, using breathing apparatus.

This course includes simulator oxygen generating self-contained self-rescuers (OSCSR) training to comply with the 3-yearly requirement within Section 103 of the Work Health and Safety (Mines and Petroleum Sites) Regulation 2022 (NSW).

Who Should Attend?

Individuals re-entering the underground mining industry who require accredited self-escape training to meet site requirements.

• Self-rescuer use, donning and changeover procedures*
• Simulator oxygen generating self-contained self-rescuers (OSCSR) training
• Compressed air breathing apparatus (CABA) donning procedures
• Evacuation wearing self-escape equipment

*This course includes training in the operation of self-rescuers and breathing apparatus, including simulator oxygen generating self-contained self-rescuers to comply with Section 103 of the Work Health and Safety (Mines and Petroleum Sites) Regulation 2022 (NSW).

Credential issued

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be awarded a Statement of Attainment for the following units:

• RIIERR203E Escape from hazardous situations unaided

You will also receive an industry Self-Escape Card. This card may be required for site access.

Course delivery

This course is delivered through classroom-based training, desktop scenarios and practical exercises.

Assessment includes written, oral and practical tests.

Entry requirements

• There are no formal prerequisites for this course
• This course is based on a Certificate II level qualification. You should have appropriate literacy and numeracy skills to manage course work, activities and assessments.
• Mines Rescue recommends you be aware of the policies and procedures of your workplace before starting the course.
