Coal Services is a Specialised Health and Safety Scheme that provides an integrated suite of services to help identify, assess, monitor and control many risks inherent in the coal industry.
Our preventative and responsive services in the areas of workplace health and safety, workers compensation, emergency response and training help to deliver on our purpose, ‘to protect the health and safety of the NSW coal industry’. We are owned by industry for industry. Our shareholders are the Mining and Energy Union and the NSW Minerals Council. Our purpose, vision and values are aligned to focus on the safety and health of our industry and its workers.

Governance
Coal Services and its subsidiaries are private companies, created by statute (the Coal Industry Act 2001 (NSW)) with statutory responsibilities which are administered by the Minister for Natural Resources.

History
Coal Services as we know it today was established in 2001-02 under the Coal Industry Act 2001 (NSW). However, it has a rich and unique history dating back to 1923.

Health and Safety Trust
The Coal Services Health & Safety Trust supports the Australian coal mining industry by funding projects and research that will have a positive effect on the health and safety of coal mine workers, operators and the wider mining community.
