Introduction

This course provides you with a sound understanding of the requirements to function as a Fire Officer at a coal mine. 

Please note: under the Work Health and Safety (Mines and Petroleum Sites) Regulation 2022 (NSW), individuals must hold the RIIERR201D Conduct fire team operations (or equivalent) to exercise this statutory function.

Please refer to our Fire Team Operations courses if you do not hold this unit of competency.

Who Should Attend?

Individuals who may be required to act as a Fire Officer, or those wishing to acquire new skills.

What you will learn
  • The role and responsibilities of a Fire Officer
  • Compliance requirements of the fire hazard management plan and legislation
  • Auditing and review of fire risk controls in the management plan
  • Recording requirements of inspections, tests, maintenance, defects and repairs
  • Training requirements for the fire team and general workforce
Credential issued

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be awarded a Statement of Attendance for the following:

  • Fire Officer Training
Course delivery

This course is delivered through classroom-based training, desktop scenarios and practical exercises.

Assessment includes written, oral and practical tests.

One day

Entry requirements
  • Mines Rescue recommends you have experience working in the mining industry and have completed fire team operations training before starting this course.
  • This course is based on a Certificate II level qualification. You should have appropriate literacy and numeracy skills to manage course work, activities and assessments.
  • Mines Rescue recommends you be aware of the policies and procedures of your workplace before starting the course.

What you need to bring:

  • Fully enclosed footwear
  • Unique Student Identifier (USI) number
  • Your mine sites Fire and Explosive Principal Hazard Management Plan or equivalent.

Students Under 18

Mines Rescue minimum age for enrolment is 15 years. If you are between the ages of 15 and 18, we require your parent or guardian to sign your Student Enrolment Form. Please contact a Mines Rescue Station directly to enquire or enrol into your course.

Visa Holders

Mines Rescue is not CRICOS (Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students) registered. If you are visiting Australia and hold a visa, please contact Mines Rescue directly prior to enrolling into any of our courses.
