The RII50920 - Diploma of Underground Coal Mining Management prepares you to take on the responsibilities of mining supervisors (Undermanagers), including managerial, planning and technical skills to successfully operate with a high level of autonomy.
Who should attend?
Existing workers wishing to progress towards becoming an Undermanager in the underground coal mining industry.

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be awarded a RII50920 Diploma of Underground Coal Mining Management.
You must complete 12 units (made up of core and electives) to achieve this qualification. Mines Rescue offer the following units:

* You may wish to substitute this unit with RIIBLA302E Conduct shotfiring operations in underground coal mines.

Successful completion of this course will meet the Coal Competency Board’s educational requirement to sit for the second class Certificate of Competency (Undermanagers) examination. Please refer to the NSW Resources Regulator website for further information on Certificate of Competency examinations.
Course delivery
This course is delivered through a combination of face-to-face classroom training, desktop scenarios, case studies and practical training exercises using virtual reality technologies.
Assessment includes written and oral tests; practical workplace assessments under the guidance of an appropriate workplace mentor; and submitted projects/assignments.
Duration
24 days over a 12 month period.
Entry requirements
- There are no formal pre-requisites for this course
- It is expected that you have experience working in an underground coal mine environment
- This course is based on a Diploma level qualification. You should have appropriate literacy and numeracy skills to manage course work, on-course activities and assessment tasks.
