NSW Mines Rescue has been selected as a finalist at the NSW Training Awards for ‘Large Training Provider of the Year’.
The NSW Training Awards are conducted annually by Training Services NSW within the NSW Department of Education to recognise outstanding achievement in the vocational education and training sector. The Awards honour and reward the achievements of students, trainers/teachers, registered training organisations and employers.
Lachlan Grant, Mines Rescue State Operations Manager, explained that Mines Rescue was established as a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) in 1996 but has been providing safety training to the NSW coal mining industry for almost 100 years.
‘Mines Rescue was originally established to provide an emergency response capability for the NSW coal industry, and the training provided revolved around meeting that requirement. Today, in addition to emergency response and specialty mining training such as inductions and refresher training, we also offer a range of safety training courses that are applicable to many industries, such as first aid, working at heights, confined space, risk management and more.’
Mines Rescue’s trainers and assessors are nationally-accredited and bring decades of specialised experience in mining operations to ensure a deep understanding of industry challenges and the importance of safety. Training is conducted in purpose-built facilities with real equipment to simulate authentic scenarios, including fighting actual fires and using genuine breathing apparatus.
Being selected as a finalist for the Large Training Provider of the Year award highlights the organisation’s outstanding commitment to delivering high-quality training programs, innovative teaching methods, and exceptional outcomes for learners.
‘We recently won the Hunter Safety Awards ‘Best WHS Training Program’ and now to be selected as a finalist at the NSW Training Awards is a real honour. It recognises the passion and dedication of Mines Rescue’s trainers and RTO team and the impact they have on advancing industry standards and enhancing workplace skills,’ Lachlan said.
The winners will be announced at a special event in September.
